Goodbye Santa Barbara!

Hello again,
It's me, Esther. Yes you read that subject correctly, I'm finally leaving Santa Barbara. Now normally I hate to divulge too much on the internet because hey you never know who's going to read your blog, but today I thought I'd tell all you blog readers that I am leaving Santa Barbara and the reasons why (well some of them, I've left some out). As many readers already know Santa Barbara was never a place for me to settle down. I never particularly enjoyed it, I tried but I just couldn't. Monterey was my place but Santa Barbara not so much. (Juicebox loved it though).
I came to Santa Barbara to go to Brooks Institute thinking that I would get another degree in photography because heck that would be fun. Well, you know what I discovered? The first year and a half is where the school crams everything (and I do mean everything) you need to know to become a photographer and the last year and a half is essentially where you take electives and learn pretty much nothing new. Now I could take these electives and get a second bachelor's degree but the logical part of my brain said 'hey, why the heck do you want to take these classes and be miserable when you could get the same knowledge through experience in the field?' So I talked with professors, friends, did a little prayin' and the answer was to leave so that's what I'm doing. I'll be going back to the east coast (who knows it may work out, may being the operative word) and looking for a job in New York. Right now I'm just looking for internships. I just applied for one this morning with Mark Seliger, a noted portrait photographer.
I'm pretty sure I'm doing the right thing (I hope I'm doing the right thing). I'll be leaving though at the end of this month-aaah! Don't worry, Juicebox will be coming with me. He knows a good marsupial bar in Manhattan near Times Square.
